Announcing LOVE LAB: The Science of Desire, Opening Feb 11. (latest exhibition at the Trinity Science Gallery)

From the Science Gallery Director, Michael John Gormley:

Wondering what’s coming up next at Science Gallery? Willing to advance the cause of science by participating in human experimentation? Keen to discover the scientific basis for attraction?

I am delighted to let you know about our brand new exhibition LOVE LAB: THE SCIENCE OF DESIRE where Trinity College researchers will be investigating what lies behind those butterflies you feel when you fall in love. What makes one person’s dream date a nightmare for another? Does romance really exist or do our genes precondition us to seek out particular partners?

LOVE LAB opens to the public on February 11th and will run until March 12th, inviting YOU to take part in research into desire and attraction. LOVE LAB  includes experiments devised by some of Ireland’s leading scientists, including Boyle Medal winner TCD immunologist Professor Luke O’Neill, geneticist Dr Aoife McLysaght,  Professor Fiona Newell and Science magazine’s Gonzo Scientist John Bohannon. The experiments will include judging attractiveness of faces, voices, walks and scents. LOVELAB: THE SCIENCE OF DESIRE opens at Science Gallery, Trinity College, Naughton Institute on Thursday 11th February at 12:00. It will run until 12th March and is open Tuesday-Friday 12:00-20:00 and Saturday-Sunday 12:00-18:00.

As we approach the Science Gallery’s second birthday nearly 500,000 people have already visited us. I’d like to thank you all for the support and interest you have shown in the many different creative clashes of art and science that have resulted in events, exhibitions and experiences.

We are also delighted to announce our new MEMBER+ scheme where you get to join this community of creative thinkers, receive discounts, free WiFi, priority bookings and you get to support the activities of Science Gallery.

The normal annual rate is €30, but for students and staff of Trinity College Dublin and existing gallery members we are offering MEMBER+ at the special rate of €20. Sign up today in Science Gallery (showing your TCD ID card) and receive a special gift and an invite to the VIP preview of LOVE LAB on February 10th with special guest Chris de Burgh! You can also join online at www.sciencegallery.com/membership_plus

We look forward to seeing you at LOVE LAB and hope you will join us to investigate the SCIENCE OF DESIRE!

Kind regards,

Michael John
