Welcome… a new blog devoted to issues around Irish science.
This blog has been started as
… a blog for Irish Science, Irish Scientists, Scientists in Ireland, those with an interest in Irish Science, Research, Science Policy, Innovation, Invention, Intellectual Property, Development, Engineering, Technology, the Knowledge Economy, the Smart Economy and related issues. Also: all of the above in an international context. And anything else that seems tangentially relevant…
This will be a group blog with scientists and other interested parties posting from time-to-time. We hope to facilitate discussion on the worth and impact of Irish science, in its own right and in terms of its national and international impact on broader issues of innovation and development.
We are launching at a time when what has been and continues to be a modest level of investment in research and development by Government is likely to be reduced in the December 2009 budget, and in the context of economic turbulence that has not yet subsided. We will argue here for the worth of the continued and increased public and private investment in research and development in Ireland, and hope to shape public policy accordingly. There are great stories to tell, and we will try to tell them here.
